Chiltern Place Topping Out
WHO: Ronson Capital Partners
WHAT: Topping Out Ceremony
BRIEF: Our client, in partnership with the construction company Mace, approached us to produce a Topping Out ceremony on the 14th and 15th floors of Chiltern Place, a collection of modern, luxury apartments currently being built in the heart of historic Marylebone Village. Graphics, branding, AV, staging, live feeds and filming were among their requirements, as well as a full wet weather contingency plan and on the day management.
RESULT: In addition to the usual challenges of installing full-service technical equipment and custom-built staging on a working construction site, on this occasion heavy rains and strong winds presented us with additional obstacles when the 14th floor was overcome by flooding. On such an exposed site, the safety and comfort of guests was of paramount importance, so for a large part of the morning our main focus was to remedy this situation and return the area to a dry zone, whilst preventing any technical equipment or branded signage from being damaged by the elements.
The eastern penthouse suite on the 15th floor, which offers the most spectacular views across London, had been the intended site of the Topping Out ceremony. Live filming of this time-honoured ritual was to be relayed to guests down on the 14th floor onto large plasma screens. However, due to the extremely adverse weather conditions, it was necessary to relocate the VIP party to the lower of the two levels, where they carried out the speeches and the ceremony itself in close proximity to each other. The weather-proofing measures we had put in place with the tireless help of on-site staff ensured that the guests, the VIP party and the branded staging area remained dry for the duration of the event, which was finished off with a selection of canapés and drinks overlooking some of London’s most famous landmarks.
