Mo Ibrahim Foundation
WHO: The Mo Ibrahim Foundation
WHAT: Awards Ceremony
BRIEF: As their flagship event, the Ibrahim Foundation holds an awards ceremony every year in a different African country to celebrate excellence in African leadership. The accolade is awarded to a former Executive Head of State or Government who has shown the best governance by an independent Prize Committee headed by Kofe Anan. The year we began working with them, the ceremony was to take place in Alexandria, Egypt, with up to 1,200 attendees.
Our role was to design and produce an event that both suited the awards ceremony and a concert with Youssou N'dour, to include all set and staging design along with full technical production and event management.
RESULT: All technical equipment, stage set, rigging, lighting and sound equipment was sent by air freight from the UK. Logistics played a key part, as well as considerations such as airport customs, local official controls and cultural restrictions within a strict Muslim country. As the event was to be televised across Africa, we were required to film both the awards ceremony and concert, and to subsequently edit the film in post-production. Additional aspects we covered included the build of a large marquee for a drinks receptions, and the direction of all AV and lighting during the events.
